Escuto e fotografo adolescentes de realidades diversas em Belo Horizonte, Brasil, entre 16 e 19 anos (mulheres cis, transgênero e pessoas não binárias) que desde muito cedo tem a vivência marcada por estarem na contramão de padrões ditados pela nossa sociedade, seja através do corpo, de questões da sexualidade, gênero, raça, relações familiares ou tudo isso junto. Essa geração tem a adolescência atravessada pela pressão e a ambiguidade da expressão das redes sociais. Nomes reais ou fakes, verdade X mentira, selfie X anonimato. Estão crescendo num tempo onde assistimos ao colapso do edificio binário (homem X mulher, feminino X masculino / heterossexual X homossexual).
Para esse jardim de dualidades e indefinições, crio retratos que surgem ao lado do que seria o oposto de alguma representação – gifs animados em pixels (quase) indefinidos que tornam-se a própria performance.
O projeto começou com a entrada dos meus filhos na adolescência, quando surgiu o desejo de explorar suas expressões tão diversas e entender como elas atravessam a minha própria experiência de viver.
Passei a observar os processos de subjetivação dos adolescentes não apenas para pensar o futuro deles, mas também o meu e o nosso, como coletivo. À medida que eles se transformam, me interessa também observar as transformações em mim. Nesse movimento de ruptura e reinvenção, mais do que lidar apenas com as mudanças que atravessam esses corpos, o trabalho abre espaço para um encontro com as transmutações da sociedade contemporânea.
Durante a pandemia, o projeto se transformou em uma galeria virtual multimídia. A partir daí, desenvolvi a ideia de uma exposição itinerante, incorporando também um programa de educação artística. Esse desdobramento amplia o trabalho para a escuta e a criação de imagens com adolescentes em diferentes partes do mundo. A proposta é ouvi-los, registrar seus depoimentos, produzir retratos e vídeos, além de reunir desenhos e outras formas de expressão artística dos participantes.
O resultado desse processo é a criação de uma nova caixa itinerante do projeto Centennials, que passa a integrar o Centennials Traveling. A ideia é reunir, ao longo dos próximos anos, o maior número possível de caixas produzidas em diferentes territórios, atravessadas por múltiplas linguagens e culturas.

I have listened to and I have photographed teenagers from different contexts in Belo Horizonte/ Brazil that since very early in their lives have been marked by going against the flow of standards defined by our society, be it through their bodies, sexuality, gender, race, family relations or all of that together. This generation has their adolescence affected by pressure and ambiguity of self-expression via social media. Real or fake names, truth X lie, selfies x anonymity. They are growing in times when we watch the collapse of the binary building (man x woman, feminine x masculine, heterosexual x homosexual )
For this garden of duality and indefinitions, I create portraits that appear next to what would be an attempt at representation – (almost) undefined animated gifs in pixels that become the performance itself, in our cyberculture.
The project started with my children entering adolescence, when I wanted to explore their so diverse expressions and how they affect my experience of living.
I pay attention to the processes of subjectivation of teenagers to think not only about their future, but also my own and our future as a whole. As they transform, I also want to observe my own transformation. In this process of disruption and reinvention, beyond just wanting to deal with the transformations that are happening to those bodies, this movement provides an encounter with the transmutations in the society of our times.
In the pandemic times, the work was transformed into a multimedia virtual gallery, and after that I worked on the idea of a traveling art exhibition, where I can also add an art education program, expanding the work for listening and creating more images from teenagers in different parts of the world. With this program I’ll be able to listen to them, record their testimonials, create portraits, videos and collect drawings or any other art manifestation from the participants. The result of the program is a new Centennials Traveling box, that will make part of the Centennials Traveling project . The idea is to collect, over the next few years, as many boxes I can create across different areas, with different languages and cultures.
